A total of 71 people have chosen to pursue their career with us down the years after successfully completing their apprenticeship at Bernicia.
Lauren Lashley, 29, took the decision to pursue a career as an electrician, leaving her part-time role at a builder’s merchant to self-fund an electrical installation college course, gaining her a Level 2 qualification to give her the best possible chance of securing a Bernicia apprenticeship.
She’s nearly six months into her apprenticeship and impressing all with her dedication and determination to build a trades career.
“I was building things with my grandad when I was five or six, but because career opportunities were never there in trades for girls at school, it was something that I didn’t pursue,” said Lauren.
“My partner told me to absolutely go for it. Bernicia is a company that I wanted to work for because I identified with their goals so much.
“Being a woman in a trade, feeling as supported as I do, is a fantastic feeling.”
Ethan Foster, 17, is thriving in his role as an apprentice plumber.
“I really enjoy coming into work every day,” he said. “My mentor has been brilliant with me. I’ve had lots of support from him.
“I’m looking forward to becoming fully qualified so I can be responsible for my own jobs.”
